On other pages through this site, a constant theme is my suggestion of the historic and cutural impact that Lundy had on the mainlands of England and Wales, indeed its spiritual significance. To suggest that the Island"punched" above its weight, so to speak.
Lundy is doing so once again. Englands fist marine nature reserve, becoming a no take zone in 2003, and now a fully fleged Marine conservation Zone (the first in the UK), shows that Lundy is once again providing guidance for the mainland. The intention is that Lundy is to provide the blueprint for future zones around UK coastal waters, as a result of the success of establishing the No Take Zone just a few short years ago.
The simple concept behind the scheme is to provide a safe haven for otherwise pressurised sealife to establish strong breeding communities that will provide wildlife to maintain healthy poulations through a greater area.
